SUSTAINABILITY STORY MAPS

In Fall 2018, students harnessed the power of ARC GIS Story Maps to combine images, text, maps, and data visualizations into rich multimedia descriptions and explorations of many aspects of sustainability on campus. Topics included waste diversion, green buildings, interdisciplinary stewardship education, landscape management, recreation, resource conservation, ecosystem services, terrestrial environments, sustainable food systems, green transportation, sustainability governance, and the Kate Chandler Campus Community Farm. After considering different methods of communicating environmental information, we chose Story Maps for their ability to quickly and clearly explain information, data, and in-depth knowledge of  subject areas. More powerful than just words or images alone, the Story Maps combine context, meaning, and experience that permit new modes of discovery and messaging.
